English to Chinese translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Printing & Publishing | | English term or phrase: cutesy magazine? | Wendy Diamond wants to be the Martha Stewart of the pet world. She's well on the way.
Wendy Diamond picked a lousy time to launch a cutesy magazine when she raised $2 million in 1999 to publish Animal Fair. The quarterly ode to celebrities and their pets languishes still, despite a coup or two.
Is "cutesy" used here in its original meaning (Deliberately or affectedly cute) , or is there any deeper or trickier meaning to it that I don't get? I think this word is negative, but I can't see why any negative meaning should be intendted in the sentence. |
