Thanks for all of you with so much helpful data and explanation to it! Actually, I'm a bit puzzled by it. :) Upon your advices, I decide to adopt definition from Yueyin Sun. After visiting the link above (http://www.hotelcharlotte.com/rooms.html) and watching the pictures, I guess that "adjoining rooms" and "connecting rooms " are used to describe small rooms in a large guestroom, which contains two or more rooms. That sounds a bit reasonable.

又刚看到Carol给出的资料中列着 "Also called 'connecting rooms", 如果这句是 source text 里的原句，那么至少你这份资料里的 adjoining rooms 是连通的。这家旅馆大概是和其余不少旅馆一样将“adjoining rooms" 和 “connecting rooms" 混用了。

Well, 估计是很多旅馆都用词不严格，以至于将adjoining rooms 和connecting rooms 混用了。严格定义还应该是yueyin给的那个权威。

看来对adjoining rooms本身的解释就没有统一标准。如yueyin引用的google的定义说“adjoining rooms . Hotel rooms which, while next to each other, have no connecting doors”, 而如FourSeasons引用的英文，还有很多旅馆给的介绍都说是想通的。
