Desired accuracy may be explained by the percentage of the mean of the observed time. For instance, the goal may be to achieve an estimate within 10 percent of the actual mean. The sample size is then determined by :

where
z= number of standard deviations to achieve desired confidence level
s = sample standard deviation
a = desired accuracy
x = sample mean
