Know-how (znanje i iskustvo) (engl. know-how, njem. Know-how Erfahrungen);

1. u užem smislu primijenjeno tehničko znanje, metode i podaci potrebni za praktično ostvarenje i primjenu tehnike koja služi u industrijske svrhe. To su sva znanja i iskustva koja nisu prijavljena radi stjecanja patenta, a kojima se ponekad mora ovladati da bi se mogao primijeniti neki patentirani ili nepatentirani izum, nova tehnologija itd.;

2. nezaštićeno znanje, jer ga ponekad imatelj ne želi zaštititi. Izum može ostati nezaštićen, i biti samo know-how, kad izumitelj nije voljan objaviti pojedinosti o njemu, što bi mu bila dužnost kad bi ga zaštitio patentom;

3. u širem smislu know-how se ne ograničuje samo na područje tehnike, nego obuhvaća cjelokupno znanje i iskustvo potrebno za suvremeno poslovanje, tj. odnosi se i na organizaciju poduzeća, knjigovodstvo, informatiku, komercijalu i sl. Kako ne uživa patentnu zaštitu, najbolje ga je zaštititi ugovorom o licenciji.

Viđala sam ovako prevedeno i izraz na engleskom u zagradama, ali i samo know-how, čak i u dokumentima sastavljenima na hrvatskom.
