The similarity between the symptoms reported in the literature and the presenting problems many couples and families bring to therapy is striking. The case examples provided here suggest the importance of understanding the effects of trauma using a systemic theoretical lens. The potential for the development of disruptive interpersonal processes suggests that individual trauma may have extensive consequences for the entire family system.
