Danske skidt Explanation: Light-hearted or not it's a pretty nasty way to address someone. Here is an example of how to say it in Danish. First word is pronounced how it is spelled, but the second word is pronounced as if it was written "skeet" |

Danskjävel Explanation: OK, so its Swedish, but its a catchphrase from Lars von Triers' TV series "Riget" (The Kingdom), used by a Swedish head doctor at the hospital. It might raise a laugh, I think most Danes would get the reference. Pronounciation is /'da:nsk,jævl/ (the a as in 'ah', the j as in 'yellow', and the ä as in 'devil', but longer). Another possibility in Danish would be 'danskersvin', literally Daneswine. Its harsh, but idiomatic. Pronounciation should be straightforward if you're English. |
