A window placed in a projection of an exterior wall of a building is called an oriel window when the wall projection does not extend all the way to the foundation.

Yes  iqcservices: Uit de uitleg van Saskia blijkt niet zo meteen waarom het een oriel WINDOW wordt genoemd (omdat in de MEESTE gevallen een erker met (een) erkervenster(s) kan vereenzelvigd worden), maar het klopt wel.
