Ik begrijp niet goed wat Albany in die zin komt doen en vind ook geen leuke vertaling voor die met Utopia. Kan iemand mij helpen?

Je moet dringend eens je geheugen opfrissen, ga maar eens naar (bv. Durbuy (Jehova's hebben daar een grote vestiging), Fatima, Lourdes,...).

Voor wat de plaats betreft, kun je best iets gebruiken dat door een Nederlandstalig publiek zal begrepen worden, een plaats waar nogal wat 'religieus geïnspireerde mensen rondlopen'.

en veel zal je duidelijk worden; betreft hier o.m. een verwijzing naar de Shakers en het feit dat religie en wet soms wel nauw verbonden zijn:

During the 19th century Shaker membership grew to about 6000 converts living in 19 settlements throughout New England and the Midwest. The Shaker movement in America was characterized by communal living, celibacy, public confession of sins, pacifism, belief in equality of all people, and daily living designed to bring about the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Explanation:
Volgens mij kan je Utopia hier het best vertalen als 'ideale wereld'.
Albany staat dan wellicht symbool voor een corrupt land. Eventueel kan je daar ok gewoon een ander land nemen waar de letter van de wet flagrant met de voeten wordt getreden, zoals in tal van Zuid-Amerikaanse en Afrikaanse landen jammer genoeg het geval is/was.

neutral  Joeri Van Liefferinge: Ik zou toch Utopia gebruiken in plaats van 'de ideale wereld', aangezien het over landen gaat. Je suggestie om een Afrikaans of Zuid-Amerikaans land te gebruiken, vind ik daarentegen bijzonder goed!

- Prachtig, hoor. Opeens leven we in Utopia. Politiek hoort er nu eenmaal bij, beste vriend. Of breng anders maar eens een dag in Albanië door.
