...In this light, and with specific concern for the opportunities of students from socially and economically disadvantaged (poor) homes and communities, it is necessary to conduct an adequate quick scan of the education, training and innovation systems of Suriname, with specific regard to the capacity of the systems to provide a suitably skilled flow of flexible workers to meet the challenges of growing worker efficiency and production restructuring that now accompany globalization.
The ongoing process of globalization, especially collaborative technological change, is now forcing Suriname and other countries of CARICOM and the wider world community to undertake rapid upgrade of their labor force and strengthening their entrepreneurial capacity as the basis for competing openly, actively and competently for employment and income opportunity.
The training designed to achieve this upgrade must be informed by an adequate understanding of the comparative position of Suriname's training institutions relative to those in CARICOM, especially Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago. It is therefore necessary that a quick comparative scan be undertaken by the Polytechnic and upgrade of the information available to the trainers about the competitive position of its counterpart institutions in the region. ..... |
