gezien de context met Fouriertransformaties e.d. lijkt sample hier te staan voor "bemonstering".

de rest van de zin wordt dan zoiets als "in aanvulling op de Fouriertransformaties", die ook (stuk voor stuk) een basis vormen voor de werking van die dingen.
