English to Dutch translations [PRO] Food & Dairy | | English term or phrase: surti lilva | I am not sure what the source language is, sorry, but from what I gather it is a type of bean used in the Afro Carribean kitchen and it has been translated as kidney bean in various places on the web. However, it seems to be a type of sweet and sour bean. Could anyone help me out??
The translation is for a list of ingredients.
Many thanks and best regards,
Ellemiek |
| | | surti lilva | Explanation: I would not translate this as these are called surti lilva on Indian recipe sites. They are a type of bean (not kidney beans) that taste a little sweet and a little sour. I simply add the word beans after the name by way of explanation. I would not use the English name of bean seeds as that is not precise enough - anyone buying these would probably have to find them in a specialised store.

Avarekayi is one among the many Indian stuff which I miss here in US. (Avarekayi is known as Bean seeds in English and Papdi Lilva in Hindi).
They are also known as Avarekayi when the skins are left on see:http://redchillies.us/2009/01/26/raw-mango-flat-bean-rice-ma... |

Explanation: Hoi, ik weet niet of dit je verder helpt, maar ik heb op een website gezien dat ze ook "green hyacinth beans" worden genoemd, maar kwam niet verder als ik "groene hyacinten" intypte. Succes!
