Ik vind "volgen" ook niet slecht, maar "vergrendelen" komt er dichter bij en wordt in het "echt" ook zo gebruikt (Google doelwit vergrendelen). In deze context is het denk ik een kwestie van persoonlijke voorkeur.

Ik ben eigenlijk noch met "volgen", noch met "vergrendelen" echt tevreden. "locken" zou inderdaad een oplossing kunnen zijn, maar zulke anglicismen blijven gewoonweg lelijk.
Ik heb nog een alternatief, dat weliswaar ook niet 100% past, maar in deze context een overweging waard is: "selecteren"
