Woordenboek ICT [Biemond/Elsevier]: flip-flop = "Een circuit dat, zolang er voeding aanwezig is, één informatiebit kan opslaan. Een dergelijk circuit is bistabiel; dit wil zeggen dat het twee stabiele toestanden kent. '0' en '1' (...)".
Bij het schakelen van een flip-flop wordt de binaire toestand omgekeerd -- een '0' wordt '1' en een '1' wordt '0'.
