Ik dacht dat octrooien sowieso aan iemand of bedrijf toe behoorden en je die niet hoeft te claimen, dus misschien is er een andere term voor. |

Hierin staat o.a.: "In connection with rights, such as patents, it means to defend or maintain those rights. Filing an actual lawsuit is only the last resort if someone defends or maintains rights. "To assert" also includes earlier stages, such as calling someone to claim an infringement of rights."
Het kan zijn dat iemand een patent claimt waar jij recht op hebt, en dan moet je daarvoor opkomen of dat verdedigen.
(off-topic: in VD NL-EN staat onder andere "asserteren". Als je hiernaar zoekt op google krijg je uitsluitend referenties van woordenboeken. Welk practisch nut heeft zo'n woord dan... ;)
