gerechtshof Explanation: My first reaction was also "hogere rechtbank", but really it depends on the context. If parties are referred to or involved in proceedings before a superior court, this would be the correct translation. However, it could also be the name of a particular type of court in California and then the correct translation depends on the "level" of the court. It seems most likely to me, that it would be something equivalent to what would be a "gerechtshof" in the Netherlands; a court parties can appeal to, but not the highest court of the US. I have an English law degree, I am studying for a Dutch law degree and have some nine years of experience as a legal translator. |
