Dutch translation:financiële schade/derving wegens de eerste gedaagde/aangeklaagde of de tweede gedaagde/aangeklaagde
Explanation:
Dictionary.com gives the following:

alternatively

\Al*ter"na*tive*ly\, adv. In the manner of alternatives, or that admits the choice of one out of two things.

Source: Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, © 1996, 1998 MICRA, Inc.

alternatively

adv : in place of, or as an alternative to; "Felix became a herpetologist instead"; "alternatively we could buy a used car" [syn: as an alternative, instead, or else]

I think alternatively in this context means 'or'. If the first defendant is not responsible for the loss then the second one is. More context would have helped since now I am not sure what kind of loss we are talking about nor what kind of court case, if any.

I hope this helps!
