English to Dutch translations [PRO]
Medical - Mathematics & Statistics | | English term or phrase: center nested within country | The primary variable will be analyzed for each dose independently using a mixed model for the FAS. The model will contain treatment and sex as fixed effects with the baseline FEV1 measurement and age as covariates. To reflect the randomization scheme the model will also include country/region as fixed effects with center nested within country as a random effect.
What center is meant here? And what does nested mean in this context? Anybody who is familiar with these terms? |

nested within this effect (shorthand name = "Country") a random effect is included, namely "Center". this perhaps refers to research/medical centers within a country or region?
don't know the verb 'nesting' in this context, but I would be surprised if the Dutch translation would be anything other than 'genest' :)

Geneste populaties
In sociaal wetenschappelijk onderzoek worden vaak experimenten uitgevoerd in geneste populaties. Een geneste populatie betekent dat personen binnen groepen genest zijn. Ook kan het betekenen dat binnen personen herhaalde metingen worden gedaan. Het voorbeeld, een interventie om ongezond gedrag bij jongeren te voorkomen, of terug te dringen, wordt vaak uitgevoerd op scholen. Hier is dan sprake van geneste data structuur; de leerlingen zijn genest binnen scholen. De uitkomsten bij geneste data zijn afhankelijk van de interactie tussen personen binnen dezelfde groep. In het voorbeeld zijn de uitkomsten, zoals rook- en drinkgedrag van leerlingen in dezelfde school afhankelijk van onderlinge beïnvloeding en communicatie, de schoolregels en het gedrag van docenten.
