"Operating clearance" is strikt genomen "speling tijdens gebruik", maar het lijkt me mogelijk om gewoon "speling" te gebruiken omdat speling tijdens gebruik (meestal) niet (eenvoudig) te meten is en dat toch meestal bedoeld wordt met gewoon "speling".
Het lijkt hier betrekking te hebben op de spelingtussen de tanden van twee tandwielen en zou je ook "tandspeling" kunnen gebruiken.
