ik denk dat men met step gewoon reliëf, verdieping, groef, gleuf, bedoelt en met grooving wil aangeeft dat het om een "verspanende" bewerking gaat (in tegenstelling tot blazen / gieten). Ik heb niet het idee dat het een bijzonder proces, gewoon met een slijpschijf / slijpwiel groeven aanbrengen.
