"Fold increase in influenza specific antibody titres before and after immunisation for each strain of the 3 influenza vaccine strains at 3 weeks after vaccination."
Lijkt me ook in het Engels een wat typische manier van formuleren. Hoe zeg je dit nu in het Nederlands, iets als "Zoveelvoudige toename"?

Instead of 'fold increase' 'n-fold increase' is also often used in cases like this. You could translate this as 'n-voudige toename', although this gives only one hit in Google (for a South African site, I think). Another option would be to describe the term, e.g. 'aantal malen pre-immunisatie titers'. I think this might work for the original sentence, but I find it difficult to fit into the sentence solejnicz just posted.
My problem (and I think also Josephine's problem) with the sentence is that it implies that there is an increase in Ab titres before immunisation, 3 weeks after immunisation (???). That's why I rephrased it a bit, to eliminate that problem.
Apart from that, I agree with you as to how the phrase should be interpreted.
I am still not happy though with your suggestion of 'titerstijging' as a translation for 'fold increase', because titerstijging might also be understood as (post - pre), rather than post/pre.
I agree with Ron that it's grammatically not a sentence, but probably a graph/table caption/title. (Nothing wrong with translating captions and titles ;-)
But I don't agree that it doesn't make sense.
They determined the *titres* before and (3 weeks) after immunisation. The *fold increase* was only determined once: by looking at the difference in the pre- and post-vaccination titres.
Titer pre = 160
Titer post = 640
Fold increase = 640/160 = 4
The term 'fold increase' without a number preceding it is used, as we can see in Ron's 1st example.
I agree with Josephine though that the sentence doesn't make any sense. I get the impression that it is the legend of a figure, or maybe the heading of a table. I think the sentence should be something like
'Fold increase with respect to pre-immunisation values in influenza specific antibody titres after immunisation for each of the 3 influenza vaccine strains at 3 weeks after vaccination.'
I can see what is meant here, but I still think that the sentence does not read well. I haven't seen fold increase by itself, usually you see a number before it or 'relative' fold increase .

Example: after eight 50% dilutions a titre of 1:256 is reached. When the titre later has risen to 1:1024, another two 50% dilutions are needed. The "fold increase" is four (not 'two' as I wrote before).
I agree with Kate, there is something missing.The rest of the sentence does not make any sense to me either: increase in antibody titres BEFORE immunisation?
