Explanation:
A curette is the tool dentists use to scrape your plaque away, hence 'curettage'. 'Subgingivale detartatie' is perhaps the better term, but - pardon the pun - is more of a mouthful.

  -> I find this strange too, but many dentistry websites refer to 'plaNNing'.
