Ik ben momenteel bezig met het vertalen van een klinische studie met menselijke proefpatiënten. De klant (uit amerika) vroeg om 'patient' te vertalen als patiënt en 'subject' als subject. Het woord 'patient' komt maar een keer voor in de tekst' ,'subject' wel 50 keer. Hoewel het volgens de dikke van Dale moet kunnen, heb ik er toch een vreemd gevoel bij om een persoon telkens als 'het subject' te omschrijven. gewoonlijk vertaal ik altijd als 'patiënt'. Is dit gebruikelijk in de klinische onderzoekswereld?

agree  Lianne van de Ven: "Subject" staat wel in van Dale maar niet in deze betekenis! Proefpersonen of deelnemers (aan de studie) is gangbaar.

neutral  Titia Meesters: 'proefpersoon' is beter, maar bij de uitvoering van de studies wordt wel vaak 'subjects' gebruikt, dus als de klant erop staat (ook na navraag) zou ik toch maar 'subjects' gebruiken.
