Context: onderzoek naar kleuring van weefsel. Ik dacht eerst dat "cases" naar "gevallen" of "dossiers" verwees, maar misschien wordt er toch naar iets anders verwezen.

Explanation:
Meestal betekent 'cases' natuurlijk 'gevallen' of 'dossiers', maar in dit verband (ik heb de source text op het internet gevonden) ben ik vrij zeker dat het gaat om weefselmonsters die bij patienten zijn afgenomen en nu in de archieven zitten.
