Het niveau is niet perse vergelijkbaar met HAVO. Vrijwel alle jongeren in Engeland doen GCSE examens als zij 16 zijn. Vergelijkbaar niveau hangt af van de behaalde 'grades', bijv. sommige jongeren halen 10 A-C 'grades' en dat resultaat is waarschijnlijk gelijk aan HAVO, andere jongeren halen 'slechts' 1 of 2 D/E grades. Het is moeilijk te vergelijken met de NL situatie. Met 5 A-C grades kan je een A-levels (Advanced Level)studeren. Met 3 A-levels wordt je toegelaten op de Universiteit.
