English term or phrase: Materic surface and acrylic on canvas
This is the notation under a painting.

In italian it's:
Preparazione materica su tela (or Base materica su tela), if this can help....(I translated from italian, so you can also correct the english if you think it's incorrect)

Thanks!

French translation:surface matiériste et acrylique sur toile
Explanation:
Thanks for requesting that I post this as an answer. I have selected a low confidence level as I am a non-native - it would be good if you could get some confirmation from native French speakers.

Here is another English-language reference:

Elaine creates her original works of art in traditional, transitional, and contemproary styles. First, Elaine prepares a textured surface on canvas. Acrylic paints in strong or muted colors are then blended as they are applied to the surface.

As for the original Italian, "base materica su tela" - "base matiériste sur toile"?

Your idea of "mixed media" is also relevant. However, I think this is normally "technique mixte" in French and "tecnica mista" in Italian. See, e.g.:

materic surface and acrylic on canvas
apprêt et acrylique sur toile

Explanation:
Il y a clairement un problème dans la traduction de l'italien à l'anglais car "materic" n'existe pas en anglais.
Il pourrait s'agir d'une préparation de la toile avec un apprêt avant application de la peinture acrylique mais cet apprêt est généralement aussi de l'acrylique dilué donc je ne fais que supposer...

Example sentence(s):
  • Parfaitement opaque et d’une excellente résistance à la lumière, cet apprêt spécial à base d’acrylique vous permettra de vous adonner au pastel ou au fusain sur une toile en lin, un châssis ou un papier rigide.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yesterday I asked the artist if I could translate as "tecnica mista" and she said that it's not really a tecnica mista, though she could accept this translation. At this point, I think that a correct translation could be Textured surface, or Mixed media on.. , for french I will opt for Mélange à base de matériaux divers/ textures diverses et acrylique, or Surface avec effet "matiériste. I like Base matiériste but do not dare...;-)
