Rules for gender assignment are based on three types of features: phonological, morphological and semantic. The applicability of these categories is however variable: some govern all the nouns of a given type while others apply only to a certain percentage of the group in question. We shall look first at phonology, next morphology, then semantics and at the relationship between these features. One of the most important things to note is that in deciding genders we are always dealing with a number of INTERSECTING RULES.

qui s\'entrecroisent va bien également, ça colle comme le produit de 3M! mais dans ce contexte, se chevaucher et s\'entrecroiser..se chevauchent...ou s\'entrecroisent..je m\'y perds... :-))

Pour coller davantage (comme acec du Scotch Tape) à l'anglais, je choisis S'ENTRECROISER. D'accord? Surtout que SE CHEVAUCHER <- TO OVERLAP. Il faut se demander : Pourquoi l'anglais n'a pas utilisé OVERLAPPING RULES?
