They were an unusual couple. That went without saying. It was only when she met one of her schoolfriends that somebody would actually say it. Nothing they did was ever remotely conventional. Even the way in which they first met on the bus on her way to school. She had seen him getting on the bus for months till one day she got the nerve with her friend Maureen to sit next to him. 'Why don't you take us out for a drink sometime?' she said to him. He turned out to be four years older than her. The whole thing became a scandal in school which made her feel even more unique.
