2) "The second view shows the exhaust discharge from the silencer from beneath a plastic opening door (a sort of ***valance***) at the side of the truck. It is this ***valance*** that shows no damage whatsoever in the photograph taken of the damaged vehicle."

A tout hasard, voici une définition du GDT, pour le domaine auto (qui peut aussi s'appliquer aux tracteurs je présume, dans ce cas, puisqu'on parle d'échappement):
Valance panel: Définition: Sur une automobile, pièce destinée à recouvrir ou envelopper un dispositif que l'on veut protéger ou dissimuler. Cela semble cohérent avec les phrases à traduire.
Le GDT propose donc 2 traductions : "cache-misère", ou le terme technique correct "garniture intersticielle" absolument inutilisable. Par contre, je pense que le terme "garniture" seul, pourrait convenir : il est à la fois suffisamment évocateur et en même temps vague pour être passe-partout, et est souvent trouvé dans les manuels auto.
