D'après les diverses définitions, "vents" ne serait pas seulement de simples fentes ou interstices mais des fenêtres d'aération spécialement conçues pour permettre à l'air de circuler librement.

Voici donc ma suggestion:

L'eau peut s'infiltrer à travers les trous d'aération du boîtier de transmission.

N.B. vents = fentes, fenêtres, trous d'aération, des ouvertures ou des orifices de mise à l'air libre. Et selon le contexte, ils peuvent être également des tuyaux d'évacuation.
