English term or phrase: Ordinary C

sueaberwoman: 8:58am Mar 26, 2008: Hope this will help. There certainly is a lack of standardization in the English-speaking world of education !
"O Grade or Ordinary Grade was ...the basic level of the Scottish Certificate of Education, now largely replaced by the Standard Grade...

Ordinary Certificate
Explanation:

"When the war came, it was decided to accept the results of the Ordinary Certificate, along with an endorsement from the Headteacher of the school to the effect that I would have passed a Higher Certificate if it had been possible to do so."

--------------------------------------------------

agree joobie: Yes I think you can forget the C, they don't put it on the certificate anymore anyway. C was a pass, D you had failed, so I suppose it must correspond to a note of about 10-14 d

Notes to answerer

neutral writeaway: if it's a 'note' ( grade/mark), then it's a C. just saw it's a Scottish source: " A2 Level grade B; Scottish Higher B; Irish Higher B at Honours Level"; http://www.rhul.ac.uk/European-Studies/Admissions/Index.html /it's a grade, not a certificate

-> Yes, as in "Higher Certificate, grade B" (or in this case "C")

agree sueaberwoman: See above. Apparently Grade = level; C probably =grade/mark
