Native English? 16:58 Feb 20, 2011
This term seems odd here; if you Google 'laptop hood' images, what you get seems to be all sorts of 'shields' to add to your laptop to shield the screen from ambient light or prying eyes; I hardly think these contraptions could be made 'cool' even by the addition of a glacial picture!
Is this from the US? In which case, 'hood' may have the same meaning as on a car ('bonnet' in EN, 'capot' in FR), which would seem to me more in line with what I expected, i.e. the 'lid', the back of the fold-down screen — which is all other people see when you're working, and all that can be seen once the computer is closed. I've seen lots of suggestions for ways to 'decorate' (I use the term loosely!) these, and people actually sell gizmos for them, like for mobile phone faceplates. But I can't find any evidence of their being called 'hoods'? |
