English to French translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
English term or phrase: back-span
Contexte :
"The bridge has to hang over 70 metres in the air to let the huge ships pass below. Two gigantic towers will rise on the headlands, and the cables will hang from them. Leading up to them, there’ll be a series of huge reinforced concrete piers, which will carry the road: they’re called ‘back-spans’."

French translation:contrefort / butée
Explanation:
Un peu à tatons ici, mais je crois que back-span est synonyme de abutment d'après le contexte qui en français signifie contrefort / butée.

A confirmer quand même.

Je crois que dans mon cas on parlera plus de "travée de rive". Mais merci pour ta réponse, elle m'a aidée à préciser mes recherches !
