Thanks, I didn't realise that the meaning of 'highway' was different in US English. The Asker will need to decide which version of English he wants. In British EN, a 'highway' is any road open for free public use. Dick Turpin was a highwayman because he robbed people on the King's highway and it definitely didn't have separate carriageways, central reservations, tollbooths or any of the other stuff you associate with 'autoroutes'/motorways, which are strictly out of bounds to horses, even Black Bess. |
