L'exploitation minière consiste à extraire de la terre les roches et les MINÉRAUX solides qui ont une valeur économique. Parmi les matériaux extraits figurent les minerais métallurgiques (FER, CUIVRE, PLOMB, ZINC), les minéraux industriels (CALCAIRE, SEL gemme, POTASSE, GYPSE), les métaux natifs (principalement l'OR et l'ARGENT), le CHARBON, les sables bitumineux, le minerai d'URANIUM et les pierres précieuses. Par ailleurs, l'extraction de SABLE ET GRAVIER fait partie des activités minières, tout comme l'extraction dans les carrières (voir CARRIÈRES, EXPLOITATION DES) de la pierre de taille ou de la pierre à monuments. Cependant, la production de liquides et de gaz, comme celle de l'INDUSTRIE PÉTROLIÈRE, en général, n'est pas considérée comme une activité minière.

disagree  Tony M: Contre-sens. 'to counter a slowdown' means (literally) 'contrer' or 'agir dans le sens inverse ou à l'encontre de' this 'ralentissement'. Were you perhaps thinking of 'encounter'?

agree  Tony M: Y-e-s, although I think 'compenser' goes a bit further than simply 'counter' — it is going to help a little bit to 'compenser', but that's all. Is there a special verb for that in FR?

neutral  Tony M: I think the sense of "struggle" is unwelcome here, the feeling I get is that this is the other way round: the investment will make some timid attempts to minimize the slowdown... / I think it's more a question of degree than of "tinge"
