agree  Sophie Raimondo: Je trouve que ça sonne plus français. Et le dégré d'avancement donne la même idée qu'un "état d'achèvement", qui est bien le degré d'avancement avant l'achèvement!

C'est une autre piste, mais "completion" n'a, à priori, aucune connotation d'avancement ou de progression, sinon de fini, terminé, fin de travaux, fin d'examen, etc.

Un dernier commentaire : "état" se réfère à une situation fixe à un point donné, "degré" suppose un pourcentage, une évaluation dans une progression. Donc, c'est le contexte qui fait la différence...
