Dialogue and interaction are major features of communication. When learning, adult learners need to be actively engaged in negotiating meaning between and among themselves.
They also need to be actively engaged in negotiating meaning with their teachers. As they exchange meaningful information and ideas the learners interact – i.e., they dialogue and negotiate. This can be differently stated as teacher-learner ***engagement in discourse***.
Through dialogue participants represent their experiences using semiotics or a language, which is understood by those with whom they share experiences.
