Explanation: I'm not suggesting this as a 'good' translation (far from it, in the light of other comments here ...), but I need a little space to explain the term.
'Ingest' - is a process by which production companies (including broadcasters) accumulate AV material 'in bulk', catalogue it and make it available online within their organization so programme-makers can 'pick and choose' from whatever's available. The analogy with 'gavage' is not entirely inappropriate ...
As well as the actual content catalogue and fast high-capacity media servers, an ingest system may include some or all of the following:
- software to track the actual use made of the material (or parts of it), for digital rights management (DRM) purposes;
- software to create/manage edit-decision lists (EDLs);
