neutral  Tony M: It's that old FR / EN form vs. function thing; a 'run' of tubing (= function) is subtly different from a 'length' of tubing (= form)

  -> that's exactly what I mean - except you can't really say "une courte longueur de tuyau". If you check "short run of tubing" in Google images, what you get are ... short pieces of tubing.

agree  Tony M: Though we mustn't leave out the 'short'; the use of 'tube' here may imply electrical conduit, though the context is ambiguous.
