Dumb iron” is defined as equipment with no or very few moving parts excluding parts which are historically replaced for wear and tear. Dumb iron shall include, but shall not necessarily be limited to equipment baskets, shipping containers, hand tools, power tools, tanks, retrievable bridge plugs, coring equipment, stabbing guides, junk baskets, chiksans, co-flexip hoses, slickline tools excluding flow control equipment, fishing tools, magnets, bails, elevators, slips, spiders, false rotaries, manual tongs, lift nubbins, clamps, casing scrapers, casing rollers, casing thread protectors, subs, nipples, crossovers, drifts, stabi-lizers, spools, single and double studded adapters, side door entry subs, hole openers, under reamer bodies, etc.

Ferraille pour "iron" qui en anglais comme en français désigne bien plus que le seul élément Fe et les objets en fer doux
Inerte pour "dumb": sans pièces mobiles, non constitutif d'un appareil ou élément

Si l'énumération vise a définir les actifs d'une entreprise, l'ensemble des éléments cités en cas de liquidation pourrait être acheté au poids par un ferrailleur, donc la valeur d'actif pourrait être représentée par ce poids multiplié par le prix à la tonne
