English to French translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Engineering: Industrial | | English term or phrase: inboard/outboard helium leak tested | | Hi everyone, I have been stuck on this phrase. The phrase relates to a gas delivery system. I have translated helium leak tested to : testés à l'hélium. But I cannot figure out the meaning of inboard or outboard and obviously if I cannot figure it out in English I cannot figure it out in French! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |
| | | French translation:soumis à des tests d'étanchéité à l'hélium par apsersion et reniflage | Explanation: The inboard helium leak rate test is performed across wetted boundaries from the outside in. The product is immersed in helium for a minimum of five minutes after a vacuum is drawn internally. The Mass Spectrometer is used to measure the helium
content of the gas evacuated from the part.
The outboard helium leak rate test is similar to the inboard test except the product is tested across wetted boundaries from the inside out. The piece is pressurized to 60 psig with helium and the atmosphere around the part is evacuated.
It is a suggestion but inboard/outboard seems to refer to the French sous vide / sous pression in that context (ie two different methods of detecting leaks with helium). Inboard test could therefore be la méthode de l'aspersion while outboard could be la méthode du reniflage (see p10 of http://www.adixen.fr/adixen_fr/download/docs/news/doc327.pdf...
