English term or phrase: a power a return stroke
An engine utilizing a piston may utilize only two cylinders and pistons since the pistons will be pushed back into the cylinder by the working fluid entering the side of the cylinder where the piston is attached to the connecting rod. This is because there is less of a need to maintain the speed of the engine to ensure that the pistons will travel back into the cylinders than is necessary *when a power a return stroke* is not utilized.

Je n'ai pas vu le schéma, mais si je me base sur la description du moteur de Deluge Inc. (http://www.fe.doe.gov/news/techlines/2005/tl_thermal_hydraul... il semble en effet que la contraction du liquide à l'arrière du piston joue un rôle pour faciliter sa course de retour.

I am guessing that there is no error in your text. It seems that two terms were combined here: power stroke and return stroke.

Look them both up in the GDT, they have very specific references that match your subject. My proposed term is a mix of the two.
