Explanation:
à mon humble avis il s'agit de la fermeture ou de réglage d'un système de diffusion d'un fluide (gaz ou liquide).
Le diffuseur doit comporter une pièce conique qui vient obturer le "grommet" c'est à dire une pièce percée d'un trou quand on le tourne (le diffuseur, pas le trou !!) dans le sens des aiguilles d'une montre.

Cela forme une espèce de vanne. C'est pourquoi je traduirais grommet par siège dans ce cas précis. Mais le contexte n'est peut-être pas celui que je crois deviner.
