eaux usées

Explanation:

Example sentence(s):
  • "You must handle and dispose of any sanitary waste you produce safely"

sanitary waste
eaux noires / eaux-vannes

Explanation:
I feel certain it has to be a typo for 'sanitary' — perhaps an original minor slip was mis-corrected by a spell-checker?

If it is 'sanitary', then this usually implies specifically toilet waste or sewerage, as distinct from the less poluted 'eaux grises' (kitchen / bathroom waste)

We need more context; even if it doesn't appear in any surrounding text, what is your overall document about? You've mentioned 'environment / ecology' as the field, can you give us any more clues from the rest of your text?

In particular, is it anything to do with water treatment, as some of us have supposed; or more likely to be to do with solid waste, as Kalyma has understood it?
