English term or phrase: were hardly high in the first place
The US dollar reached 8-month highs against the euro in early June. We believe this may be a result of subdued Euro Area economic prospects along with political uncertainty after the recent EU referendums in France and the Netherlands. Nonetheless, the political discount appears excessive to us. Political changes in the EU are not likely to prompt near term economic policy changes and expectations for reform *****were hardly high in the first place*****, in our view. Our 1-month forecast for the US dollar-euro exchange rate is US$1.20/€.
