Box-edged pillows, popular in the 1950s, have popped back onto the decorating scene. They look like small sofa cushions — two rows of piping with a strip of fabric in between called a boxing strip — and they often have a fabric-covered button stitched in the center (check out the pillow in the color section).

The boxing strip adds room that you need for creating the flat sides to
the finished pillow. Because of the softness of the pillow forms, if you add seam allowances, the pillow covers come out too big.
