English term or phrase: crack ships
Paralos a servit drept vas “theoric” cãtre Delos ºi Olimpia, but usually Paralos and Salaminia seem to have been used as ***“crack” ships ***sent on special missions, such as the time the Salaminia was sent to Sicily to try to arrest Alcibiades (Thuc.6.53). Aristophanes seems to allude to this. Euelpides fears a similar arrest attempt. At 3.33, Thucydides mentions the Salaminia and Paralos as operating together, spotting the Spartan admiral Alcidas at Claros and scurrying off the Paches with the news.

agree  Martine Brault: bateaux d'élite. L'expression est souvent vue en français pour des champions de sports "un crack de tennis" ou "un crack d'informatique"
