English term or phrase: crack ships
Paralos a servit drept vas “theoric” cãtre Delos ºi Olimpia, but usually Paralos and Salaminia seem to have been used as ***“crack” ships ***sent on special missions, such as the time the Salaminia was sent to Sicily to try to arrest Alcibiades (Thuc.6.53). Aristophanes seems to allude to this. Euelpides fears a similar arrest attempt. At 3.33, Thucydides mentions the Salaminia and Paralos as operating together, spotting the Spartan admiral Alcidas at Claros and scurrying off the Paches with the news.
