English term or phrase: embayment
It is relevant to note that the erosion is not obviously related to a shortage of sand supply, as the beach is generally wide and sand is apparently abundant. However, it is likely that embayments associated with mega-cusp formations/sand waves result in narrow beach widths in places and at times.
