Diplôme mentionné sur un CV britannique. Je ne suis pas sûr de son équivalent français. S'agit-il du baccalauréat ? Merci pour vos suggestions.

Donc moi je mettrais "A level" (baccalauréat plus) ou qque chose c ça! Parce que baccalauréat c'est plutôt "O level" que "A level".. ça veut dire un an de plus au moins et anti-chambre fac!

ds ce genre de cas, me semble que vaut mieux laisser l'original avec petite explication courte entre parenthèse qu'induire le lecteur en erreur... mais bon option perso je le reconnais!

S S: Je laisserais l'original aussi. (In UK, A-level = Higher School Certificate, which is the last certificate obtained in secondary school, and normally takes 2 years to complete).

Charlie Bavington: You sure? O-level (no longer exists) age 16; Bac & A levels = age 18 both generally prerequisite for Univ. ONE A level would be somewhat BELOW a Bac, not above, I think :-)

Carole Paquis: several A levels (3 usually) are indeed an equivalent to Baccalauréat. However, O level disappeared in 1987/88. It's now GCSEs, taken age 15.

katsy: also think it would be ill-advised to imply a value judgement on relative worth of A Levels and Bac by putting sth like 'Bac plus'. AL media studies is not AL French; Bac STT is not Bac S

Je ne suis pas d'accord - je pense que ça correspond bien au bac. Il s'agit de l'examen qui sanctionne l'apprentissage du secondaire et permet l'accès à la fac.
Je pense de toute façon que pour les qualifications et diplômes, il vaut mieux laisser le terme anglais et inscrire l'équivalent ou ce qui s'en rapproche le plus entre parenthèses.

Very generally:
i) 3, 4 or 5 A levels is roughly = the Bac
ii) therefore 1 A level = perhaps 1/4 of a Bac.
iii) if this person has done 3,4 or 5 A Levels (not just Media Studies), then mentioning that this is equivalent to the Bac in parenthesis would be helpful and justifiable. But NOT if the person has ONLY done this one A Level

Second point:
A level Media Studies is generally viewed (by the public/employers) as a very easy option. It does not carry much academic weight. Rightly or wrongly, a qualification in media studies is viewed in the UK as something of a joke by many people.

following on from Charlie B's remark, with which I totally agree, I'd suggest an explanation - long I know - which is why I dare not propose it in the heading 'target term':
A Level Media Studies (équivalent approximatif de 'Communication visuelle', matière formant partie des études menant au niveau Baccalauréat) Comm. Visuelle is not quite accurate, but it IS one subject studied in one Bac, the Bac L I believe, and covers visual media.

oops, a quick check on the Ministry of Education site shows me that 'Communication visuelle' is in fact the name of a BTS (post -Bac) - however, the spirit remains the same. The media subjects studied for Bac L are far too restrictive for this translation (e.g. theatre, cinema studies...)
