I'm guessing this may be referring to the literal position on the user's screen, for example; or perhaps something more abstract, like a position in a hierarchy, or on a network, etc.

It might help if we had more context as to what this is all about; it feels a bit like the 'contact' form you find on websites...

And I think "where the information should go" probably isn't about the actual destination address, but more likely, its disposition within the form on the screen; or it might be into which database fields the information should be fed.
